EUROSMART Chairman, Olivier Piou,
will present the smart card industry approach
at the World Summit of the Information Society
in Geneva on December 11.
Eurosmart issued a Position paper on the
final declaration of the World Summit to
recall the importance of smart card and
smart card devices to guaranty security
interoperability and data protection.

joint Workshop EU Commission/GSM Association
to discuss the future of SIM Cards on December
15 in Brussels.

the fourth year, EUROSMART was the
official sponsor of Cartes. The exhibition
is a great opportunity to increase Eurosmart
visibility and meet potential new members.
 EUROSMART
held its bi annual awaited press conference
to issue smart card shipment figures 2003.
Eurosmart Chairman, Olivier Piou, presented
the main priorities of the Association:
- work together on certification
- promote Common criteria internationally
- monitor government initiatives
- provide expertise to EU officials.
He introduced Smart Card shipments for
2003:
A total of 1824 millions of cards and
a significant increase from 2002: + 24%,
telecom is recovering and governmental projects
are in a development phase.
For 2004, EMV will catch up and 2 chinese
companies will probably be in the top ten.
