EUROSMART Meetings


> 21 January: Strategic Meeting


Members met to prepare future actions around 3 main topics, in order to face the new challenges of the smart card business. A meeting is scheduled on 26 February to reorganise EUROSMART structure for a better implementation of the priorities.

> 28 January: Security Working Group

Members prepared the future Smart MEIJI workshops for 2003 and organised a list of priorities on security issues (Update of Protection Profiles)

Smart MEIJI NEWS:

> 3 - 4 March: New contactless and security workshops will be held in Tokyo, Japan.

The objectives are to report on the achievements and strengthen the cooperation. A 2003 work plan will be agreed.

> 4 - 7 March: Smart Meiji is attending IC Card World, held at the Tokyo Big Sight.

> 29 November: The project review held in Brussels was very successful. The European Commission agreed to extend the project until the end of 2003, which will allow additional Workshops for the organisation.

SINCE NEWS

> 17 December: A mid term review took place in Brussels. The evaluation of the European Commission is very positive.

Some deliverables still need to be transmitted to the Commission. A new website is going to be launched very soon in the framework of the dissemination plan.

This document investigates potential threats applying to contactless chipcards. The new documents finalised by SINCE participants should stimulate the smart card community to invest more in contactless technology especially in the field of security. In order to better take into account the specifities of the contactless technology, proposed modification of relevant protection profiles are listed at the end of the document.

Reset is a roadmap project gathering academics, experts, end-users and industry partners to investigate on future research needs for smart card related technology.

RESET is the first ever made attempt of the smart card industry to assess, in a global way, its technology priorities and R&D orientations. The experts in the 6 technology domains defined have organised their workshop from October till December 2002 and are now finalising the content of their document (available during February on this web site). If you are willing to participate to the consultation and give your opinion, please download the questionnaire and send it back completed to info@eurosmart.com

A major conference gathering R&D managers, administrative and governmental experts, academic searchers will be launched at the end of March 2003 in Brussels : "Discussions around the future of smart card research" (programme available soon). .

EUROSMART in eEurope Smart Cards
 


> 15 - 17 January: Lutz Martiny and Jan van Arkel, co-chairs of eEurope Smart Cards, attented Omnicard 2003 in Berlin which welcomed around 450 visitors.

About 100 people coming either from Government or Industry side were interested in the publication of the Common Specifications and more specifically in the demonstrators such as Netc@rd and eEpoch.

CD-Roms and leaflets on eESC, the Common Specifications, TB4/Finread were displayed on the booth. Visitors could also access the latest version of the Common Specifications on a computer on the booth.

Lutz Martiny led a discussion with industry partners on the possibities of cooperation between banking and telecom in multi-application domains as well as in the domain of the electronic signature. Jan van Arkel focussed more on transport applications.

 

eESC Partners are now compiling all TB's results into a Textbook and Common Specifications into a CD-Rom
