	EUROSMART published a position paper to welcome the creation of the European Information Network Security Agency and called for an increased cooperation of member states to guarantee security and interoperability in the respet of data protection. Download Position Paper

	EUROSMART issued a paper on the creation of the Platform for Mobile Communications and Technologies and urged the Commission to support industrial cooperation between and cross sectors in order to guarantee European competitiveness Download Position Paper

	EUROSMART will present to the European Commission its recommendations on 15 February (document available at that date) on the proposed legal framework for electronic payments.

	EUROSMART intends to participate to the Public audition organised by the European Parliament on 2nd March to discuss the introduction of biometrics identifiers in visa and passports in Europe.

	EUROSMART members will discuss with researchers from Universities the future trends of smart card research at CASSIS 2004 Check programme


	EUROSMART will participate to the International conference in Helsinki on electronic vehicle registration developments on 25th March.

EUROSMART Meetings

- Steering Committee is scheduled on 2nd March in Montrouge/Paris to prepare the next General Assembly and finalise the industry figures.

> EUROPEAN IST PROJECTS

The eEurope Smart Cards 7th conference was hosted by the Italian Presidency in Milan.

The 2 days conference gathered around 200 participants to discuss the main developments of the smart cards systems and applications.

The Italian, American and Japanese experiences demonstrated the strong involvement of the governments in national initiatives. The parallel sessions on biometrics, payments, ID, e-government, health and transports lead to constructive proposals on actions to undertake.

This edition proved the strong involvement of the eESC community and the success of its ongoing projects.

Secure and Interoperable Network for Contactless in Europe.

The project to promote contactless technology is coming to an end now.

The final review with the European Commission experts is scheduled on February 16 in RATP building.

The Contactless roadmap and the final recommendations of the SINCE consortium will soon be available on this page and on CTN web site.

2003 was an important year for the contactless technology as it is considered worldwide as the key solution for secure identification documents.
