EUROSMART 2002 Highlights




> 22 - 25 April: CTST New Orleans


Eurosmart was present at this international exhibition and started to network with other international smart card association in order to discuss the creation of the ISCAN.

> 19 - 20 September: eSmart 2002 Nice

Around 100 international participants attended the conference for its 3rd editition
.
High level scientific conferences dedicated to management and issuance and technology and security issues were a good opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and discuss future trends in the smart card area.


> 5 - 7 November: Cartes Paris

For the 4th year, Eurosmart was the official sponsor of Cartes and IT security.

Through its booth and new marketing tools, Eurosmart benefited from a high visibility, reinforcing its image as an international player. The 3 days exhibition, were an opportunity to make new contacts with numbers of smart card stakeholders.



- Eurosmart enlarged its membership scope to all international smart card stakeholders.

- ISCAN: Creation of the network on 4 November during Cartes - Paris

- SMART MEIJI review : successful review of the project with extension until end of 2003t.

- SINCE review : positive evaluation of the project by the European Commission and already two important documents available.

- SMART IS final review : the project outcomes were evaluated very positively.

- RESET : after its launch in September, participants have met regularly.

Smart MEIJI NEWS:

> 29 November: The project review held in Brussels was very successful. The European Commission agreed to extend the project until the end of 2003, which will allow additional Workshops for the organisation.

Next Workshop will take place during IC Card World in Tokyo in March.

> 4 November: Japanese, European American FORUM: The Smart Card Security Round Table (SSRT) was launched to discuss Common Criteria interpretation.

SINCE NEWS

> 17 December: A mid term review took place in Brussels. The evaluation of the European Commission is very positive.
Some deliverables still need to be transmitted to the Commission. A new website is going to be launched very soon in the framework of the dissemination plan.

> 8 November : Members of the project met in Maison de la RATP in Paris to report on individual workpackages: several high quality reports are now under public review and will be added to the Common Specifications v2 CD ROM and Source book for vast dissemination.

Reset is a roadmap project gathering academics, experts, end-users and industry partners to investigate on future research needs for smart card related technology.

The six Working Groups are now preparing their deliverables.

Contacts will be strengthened with other Road Maps in order to build a network of excellence.

EUROSMART in eEurope Smart Cards
 

11-12 December 2002: eESC Fifth Open Steering Meeting in Brussels.

This was an end of term meeting for the eESC Initiative where results, key achievements and future opportunities were addressed.

The meeting gathered 150 stakeholders of the Smart Card Industry and was partly sponsored by Alco and Ingenico.

Main presentations were:

- Results of the TBs work to be compiled in a book and published in January.


Check common Specifications V 2 on eEurope Smart Cards web site. CD-Card soon available.


- American and Japanese examples of Smart Card deployment

- Smart Card standardization

Decisions were made concerning:

- the instalment of a CEN ISSS Workshop on e-Authentication and co-operated with Japan (NICCS) and the USA (NIST) to realise global usability and acceptance.

- the dissemination plan of the eESC results under the Greek presidency, concluding in a large scale meeting in Athens on June 5 and 6, 2003.

-the agreement by participants to continue eESC by preparing a large integrated project.
