> EUROSMART activities in 2007

Important changes have been made in Eurosmart in 2007 corresponding to new developments in the Smart Security Industry.

Eurosmart Vision Paper

In 2007, our members have intensified their efforts to explain the characteristics of the Smart Security Technology to governments and to the general public. As part of this, Eurosmart adopted a “Vision Paper 2020” presenting Eurosmart vision on market trends and future functions (contactless, biometrics, smart agents, web server) and applications of Smart Secure Devices.

Many papers were delivered by Eurosmart Working Groups

Tremendous effort was also dedicated in 2007 to e-ID, new form factors, & security and market working groups.
- A White Paper on Security into e-Passport delivered by the eID subgroup which brings explanation on the trials in alleged attacking ePassports’ security.
- A survey on Smart USB Token Report undertaken by the Form Factor Working Group. USB Token are defined as “the most convenient personalised, portable and USB connected device which feature authentication, identification, data integrity and non repudiation”.
- An Essay on Smart Security Market Segmentation delivered by Eurosmart security and market experts which presents customers about different levels of risks and enables them to choose the right level of security to ensure the right protection level for their systems or applications.
- A White Paper on Secure Contactless delivered by Eurosmart security and market experts which explains the characteristics of secure contactless devices vs. RFID tags, and clarifies what is Near Field Communication (NFC) and its link with secure contactless devices and RFID technology

New members joining Eurosmart

New members joined Eurosmart this year, providing their expertise in specific areas reflecting the changes of our activities. Zetes, Inside Contacless, XponCard, Solicore and Mikron as full members benefit since then from the experience and services offered by Eurosmart.

Eurosmart events

Eurosmart organised on 27 September 2007 in Brussels a Technical Day on e-ID interoperability which brought together experts from the smart security industry together with representatives of national governments and of the European Commission. The workshop aimed at drawing a clear picture of the situation of e-ID in Europe and to raise awareness of the challenges linked to e-ID interoperability, authentication, standards and security.

This year was a great success for Smart Event and for Cartes 2007. Eurosmart Chairman, Jacques Seneca, presented the Vision 2020 and delivered at Cartes global figures and the market trends of the smart security industry in 2008.
