Eurosmart
held its newly elected Steering Committee
meeting on 20 June in La Ciotat.
 The
meeting started with an exchange of new ideas
and new issues to tackle and approved the
idea to gather all CEOs of the smart card
industry (28 companies represented) in November
in Paris for the adoption and support of the
future strategy. Among new tasks for the Association:
a survey regarding on-going work at EU level
on the interoperability of identity applications
and a market analysis on new developing security
markets. Reports are to be presented at the
next meeting in September 2006 in Sophia-Antipolis.

Eurosmart
lead the Standards Harmonisation Working Group,
held on 27 June 2006, dedicated to
Site Security logical and physical standards.
Around the tables, MasterCard, GSMA, GIE Cartes
Bancaires, APACS and Eurosmart experts agreed
to meet again in September to pursue their
exchanges towards a common approach of risk
analysis. |

Eurosmart
will follow the initiatives of the EU Finnish
Presidency, 1st July- 31 December 2006
 The
priorities of the Finnish presidency regarding
ICT and telecommunications are the revision
of the regulatory framework for electronic
communications and the directive on international
mobile roaming. The European Commission should
adopt a second version of a proposal of a
directive in July and launch a public consultation
(open until November 2006).
A conference on the i2010 strategy will take
place on 27-28 September in Helsinki. The
issue of the debate will be used as a basis
for the discussions on ICT at the informal
Summit on 20 October (Lathi). The Finnish
presidency and the European Commission also
organise a conference on interoperability
IST 2006 on 21-23 November in Helsinki.
