EUROSMART as initiator of the Payment Fraud Expert Sub-Group on Security Evaluation & Certification attended the second meeting of the group organised at the DG Internal Market of the European Commission on 27 June 2005.

The mandate of the group is as follows: monitor the implementation of methods adopted by Payment Industry and products vendors for the evaluation and the certification of their products and services in order to strengthen payment systems security. It keeps abreast of the principles adopted with regard to security evaluation and certification methods standardization as well as of the main developments in this area

Initiatives towards a coordinated approach of the various existing methodologies to evaluate payment products and services were presented, APACS, CAS (European Banking Organisations), EMVCo and PCI (initiatives from the Payment Industry Organisations).

A questionnaire to picture and analyse the European Market on this issue will be disseminate in September to stakeholders.

EUROSMART presented the smart card industry recommendations during the workshop on the impact and perspectives of the European Health insurance Card organised in Brussels on 28-29 June 2005.

The European Health Insurance Card was launched in June 2004 and stakeholders are now analysing the benefits of the tool and how to improve it. The national electronic cards experiences were presented (Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, and Italian Regions). Discussions are starting on the possibilities to implement electronic cards all over the EU in this field.
