EUROSMART and eEurope Smart Cards - Local and Central Government use of Smart Cards

The 8th eEurope Smart Cards Open Conference on "Smart Cards and Government" was held in London 20-21 May in collaboration with the release of the UK's National Smart Card Project in England deliverables. Full presentations will be available via the eESC website

EUROSMART Joint Market/Security Working Groups meeting on 5 May 2004: representatives from both working groups met to adopt a common action plan on Security certification and continue to follow-up on the European Commission legal proposal on payment services in the internal market.

Marketing Managers from Member Companies also approved the future release of a global document on smart card application useful for national administrations all over Europe in the process of organising future deployment (driver’s licenses, vehicle registration documents, citizen cards…)

Datacard will also be a member of Eurosmart Steering Committee.

 
     

EUROSMART is working on the launch of a feasibility study of a Smart Card World Center for Scientific Information under the “e-Content “ Programme

The objective of the project would be to collect scientific information of quality, to centralized classify, and disseminated it in on from a unique on-line support.

The added value of the “Smart Knowledge” is to create in Europe a smart card digital scientific information database that could contribute to maintaining the European leadership in the smart card strongly competitive industry.

 
   
 

> EUROSMART - ISCI

EUROSMART wishes to make a proposal for funding under the present call for a preparatory measure for security (PASR) launched in April by the European Commission.

Next ISCI meetings:

- Common Criteria v3 “system composition WG” discussion session hosted at Syntegra in Fleet, Hampshire on 7 June – Eurosmart is invited to participate and provide input on the draft document

- ISCI WG 2 – 9 June 2004 in Brussels.

International Smart Cards Association Network

All partners attended the ISCAN meeting on 28 April in Washington Convention Centre as well as two observers, JavaCard Forum and SIM Alliance.

Catherine Johnson, President and CEO of ACT Canada was elected Chairman of the network for one year. She will be assisted by Philippe Delanoue, Chairman of AFPC as vice-chair.

Next meeting is scheduled on Wednesday 3 November hosted by Cartes and IT Security exhibition organisers.
