The eEurope Smart Cards Initiative was designed to accelerate and harmonise the development and use of Smart Card across Europe.

It led to the creation of a strong expert community and various pilot projects and standardisation inititiatives.

A final version of SINCE CD-Rom will be available in April and distributed on Eurosmart booth 1133 at CTST in Washington (27-29 April 2004).

2003 was an important year for the contactless technology as it is considered worldwide as the key solution for secure identification documents.

International Smart Cards Association Network

NEWS from the Network:

- ACT-Canada announces the industry collaboration with NIIC on smart card issues - The NIIC will provide a forum for stakeholders and has already looked at issues of Infrastructure Partnerships, Consumer and Corporate Awareness, Business Rationales and Privacy. They have produced progress papers on these topics and started work on related issues of Interoperability, Standards, Costs, Skilled Resources, Security and Concept Development.

- Smart Card Alliance newsletter announces Mr. Cooper (CIO of the Department of Homeland Security) as keynote speaker at the Smart Cards in Government Conference in March. Federal Identity and Credentialing Committee (FICC) announced the release of a document, Authentication & Identity Policy Framework for Federal Agencies - roadmap that the government intends to follow–includes language recommending cryptographic smart cards for government-wide physical credentials. Smart Card Alliance also participated to the content of Government Smart Card Handbook released next month.
