Eurosmart in eID Roadmap

Eurosmart is more than ever committed to give its contribution to the definition of a Roadmap on eID and to promote the need of common standards and the use of Citizen Cards in Europe.

During the eGovernement Conference on 10 February in Vienna, Mrs Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and media, underlined the lack of interoperability between public sectors electronic identification and authentication systems in Europe. Eurosmart believes that smart card is the adequate instrument to ensure both strong authentication and a secure and convenient access to eServices to all Europeans.

Eurosmart General Assembly will take place on April 20th 2006 in Brussels in the prestigious Musée des Instruments de Musique (MIM), an Art-deco style building close to the historic center of Brussels. The Smart Card Industry will deliver its 2005 figures and forecast for 2006, and elect its new Chairman to succeed Olivier Piou, CEO of Axalto. The new chairman will have the opportunity to expose the prospects and the future challenges of the smart card industry in a press conference.

Our guest speaker Prof. Dr. Reinhard Posch, Federal Chief Information Officer of the Austrian Chancellery and chairman of the eID Roadmap workshop for the European Commission, will give a presentation on eID and eGovernment issues in Europe. A closing cocktail will follow in the Restaurant of the MIM.

Eurosmart participates to the Payment Systems Market Group meeting organised on 17 March in Brussels by the European Commission following the SEPA Incentives document (Single Euro Payment Area). The paper explores ways of support of the industry to meet the aim of the regulation in Europe for card payment 2010 (interoperability of the infrastructure, common standards, and security levels).
