EUROSMART EU Projects Participation

RESET seminar was organised on 3 April in Brussels with around 50 participants from all over Europe, from Research Institutes, Universities, manufacturers, consultant, telecom operators and banks.

As an introduction to RESET, Olivier Trebucq pointed out the complexity of the exercise, mixing technology, marketing and legal requirements. RESET is the occasion to set up an unprecedented forum of experts and to build a valuable tool for continuous dialogue.

The description of the results and the main challenges identified are included in the Working Group leaders presentations.

Increase connectivity and flexibility, reduce cost, extend performances and improve integration are the key words of the 6 domains of research presentations leading to the main challenges.

SINCE NEWS

NEW report Certification of contactless cards

Download Report (PDF 720 Kb)

The document describes the state of the art certification for contactless Smart Cards and the corresponding test methods: evolving from public transport organisations that have run field trials since the late 1990s, some have introduced their own certification schemes for contactless smart cards and systems to insure interoperability.

The commonly known systems for fare collection using contactless cards are Calypso (RATP France), ITSO (United Kingdom) and MIFARE (Philips Semiconductors). The contactless interface used in all these schemes is based on the 13,56MHz technology which was standardised in ISO/IEC 14443.

Security of contactless smart cards is generally related to the security features of the IC, for which, in principle, the same strategies can be followed as for contact cards.

Certification is in general covered by the Common Criteria (ISO 15408) approach, provided that the corresponding Protection Profiles are adapted to the specific vulnerabilities of contactless technology.
