EUROSMART
is a partner of CTST and
was present in Washington 26-29 April for
the 14th edition of this international conference
and exhibition.
Through its booth, Eurosmart distributed
brochures and position papers. Smart card
shipment figures 2003 and forcast 2004 were
issued during a press conference organised
the 27th April.
EUROSMART
chairman Olivier Piou also presented the
association priorities for 2004: cooperation
on certification to reduce costs and monitoring
of ID developments to ensure security and
data protection.

EUROSMART
Last General Assembly,
held on 16 April 2004 was the opportunity
to report on the main activities of the
last 6 months and recall the priorities
for 2004: six companies have joined Eurosmart,
a strong focus was put on EU legislative
monitoring and certification through the
ISCI project.
In 2004, Eurosmart will continue this work
and aims to issue figures for the whole
industry chain and better tackle future
technologies.
The steering Committee members were reviewed
with two additional companies represented.
A new fee framework was adopted. Datacard
and Moneyline joined Eurosmart.

With

proposes integrated solutions including
EFT POS terminals, Banking Automats, Multimedia
Interactive kiosks, as well as softwares
and services for retail
Datacard
provides with the systems, software and
consultative expertise they need for profitable
card programs. Financial institutions, corporations,
government agencies use Datacard solutions
to personalize, issue and manage a variety
of financial and identification cards. Datacard
will also be a member of Eurosmart Steering
Committee.

EUROSMART
released 2003 smart card shipment figures
and 2004 forecast :
1 898 million smart cards
were shipped in 2003 divided in 919
million memory cards and 979
million microprocessor cards.
Memory smart cards declined by 15% whereas
microprocessor smart card had a very strong
growth (40%) just as wireless Telecom SIM
Cards (+ 56 %). Banking/ Retail microprocessor
increased from 17 % reaching 205 Million
units.
For 2004, wireless Telecom SIM will maintain
a moderate growth as part of it was anticipated
in Q4 2003. Financial Services with EMVdeployment
will continue to increase. Government and
Corporate Security Segments will start to
take off in volumes with growth rates above
50%.

is working on the launch of a feasibility
study of a Smart Card World Center for Scientific
Information under the “e-Content “
Programme
The
objective of the project would be to collect
scientific information of quality, to centralized
classify, and disseminated it in on from
a unique on-line support.
The added value of the “Smart Knowledge”
is to create in Europe a smart card digital
scientific information database that could
contribute to maintaining the European leadership
in the smart card strongly competitive industry.
