EUROSMART brings messages to Global Forum 2005

Around 150 senior government officials, policymakers, research Institute representatives and industry leaders from Europe, North America and Africa, the academia, and the civil society gathered during 2 days to discuss Convergence and Innovation affecting the successful evolution of the Information & Knowledge Society.

Global Forum in its 8th edition is a think tank with as main purpose to promote interaction and dialogue between the different stakeholders, to give impulses for the formulation of common visions, and to pool knowledge, expertise, research, policy analysis and networking capability. The smart card this year was well positioned in the debate especially in session linked to trust, security and privacy in a convergent environment and when discussing the instruments of eGovernment as well as the challenges for transforming eHealth.

Hubert Vigneron for Eurosmart shared the floor with John Gage from Homeland Security (USA), Edith Cresson (former Commissioner and French Prime Minister) Peter Vanvelthoven (Belgian IST minister) to discuss the transformation of “e” society and how smart card is shaping the future. He reminded the work ongoing by the industry to achieve convergence/interoperability (recognised standards) and asked once again the governments to encourage standardisation for Identity applications.
