4th edition of the conference organised
by Eurosmart was a true success both in
speakers and attendance quality.
Smart Card market important evolution and
future applications were well described.
The conference was attended by journalists
from the general and specialised press.
The
Round Table was animated by Bertrand Ducastel
on convergence or divergence trends of the
Market.
Eurosmart
has issued a Position
Paper on ID applications. The European
Union is now launching the second generation
of Schengen Information System and is modifying
the uniform format of the visa to include
biometrics features.
Eurosmart recommends the use of a Smart
Card visa for a more secure and privacy
respect solution.
- Steering Committee members met
on September 18 to discuss common actions
towards the EU institutions regarding visa
and passport applications and prepared strong
communication actions for Cartes 2003 November
event (promotion documents, figures presentation,
results on EU funded projects).
- Market & Technology WG meeting
scheduled on September 19 was the occasion
for the members to reassess future Eurosmart
position papers (certification issue in
the payment area).
ISCI
International Security Certification Initiative
Eurosmart together with
Certifications bodies, and evaluation laboratories
launched a common initiative, to define
and promote a universal framework for security
evaluation and certification methods, tools
and procedure based on internationally accepted
standards.
ISCI partners met on September 16 and will
update TB3/JIL documents on evaluation methodology
(documents useful inside smart card day
to day management of security) with the
support of Certification Bodies. Japanese
official representatives will be invited
at next meeting in November.
eDemocracy
Forum - September 26 in Issy-Les Moulineaux
- Eurosmart Secretariat and its members were
present and discussed future egovernment solutions
and electronic identity. French Ministry of
Interior announced a smart card ID for French
citizens in 2006. eEurope Smart Cards results
were presented as well as achievements of
EUCLID and eEpoch. More than 1000 participants.
INSPIRED IST project funded by the
European Commission and led by Gemplus will
be launched soon. More information next
month on this important research initiative
for future of smart card technology.

: the emergence of secure
smartcard readers standards to create trust and
confidence in electronic
commerce and home banking applications
The FINREAD and Embedded FINREAD specifications
will be presented in regards with the US market
needs during two free Information Days. Demonstrations
of secure transactions on open networks will be
conducted during the day on card
readers provided by three different manufacturers
(Ingenico, SCM Microsystems and Omnikey).
This free event will be held in San Francisco
on Monday, November 10, 2003 (Sofitel San Francisco
Bay) and in New York City, on Friday, November
14, 2003 (Le Parker Meridien New York).
- Smart Card Alliance : The Smart
Card Alliance's Educational Institute will
host its EI 101 course, Intro to Smart Cards,
and EI 201 course, Advanced Business of
Smart Cards, at the Sawgrass Marriott, Monday,
October 13th - Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida
during the "smart card in motion"
addressing the growing vertical markets
for smart cards are announced.
- The Asia Pacific Smart Card Forum
has finalised an overview of smart card
developments by government in Australia
and New Zealand announcing the recent trial
on a biometric identifier for future Australian
passports, based on the planned ICAO standard
and the Australian Government has announced
that it will begin issuing a microchip securely
incorporated into all new passports in the
second half of 2004
