GREAT SUCCESS FOR 2005 SMART EVENT!

eSMART and World eID conferences organised by Eurosmart, Golbal Platform and JavaCard Forum, were particularly well attended this year with more than 400 registered participants.

The content of both conferences was really valuable for all participants: update on standardisation initiatives vital for the smart card industry, discussions on future trends and evolution of the technology, follow-up on the development or deployment of ID projects at national and international level.

Bertrand du Castel
from Axalto demonstrated the reality of the concept of privacy by showing the inside code of the smart card.

Yves Paindeveine
from the European Commission described the future “Trust and security” funding programme to focus on interoperability testing, certification, secure handling of digital assets.

Global worldwide collaborations were efficient during 2005 as speakers announced the finalisation of the common platforms of the European citizen card (CEN TC 224 WG 15) as well as ISO 24727 as the smart card interoperability framework – global collaboration between US, Asia and EU - IAS platform between France and Germany.

The next eJapan strategy for 2006 was presented to focus on Healthcare and eGovernment as well as the deployment of the Chinese ID Card and the “Silk Road Card” project between Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand).

System Integrators roles was highlighted in a debate during which Zetes, Steria and Aspects Software described their expertise and their relationships with governments.

Eurosmart Chairman at  eDemocracy Forum – 28-29 September, Issy-les-Moulineaux

About 800 international and french industrials, politicians, administrators and journalists to share experiences and exchanged views on the future challenges of the e-administration applications at the 2005 eDemocracy Forum.

Eurosmart Chairman Olivier Piou
participated in a debate on electronic identity chaired by Alex Türk, Chairman of the French organism CNIL (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés). Olivier Piou recalled the advantages of the smart card technology to protect the citizen against identity theft and violation of privacy.

 
 
 

Eurosmart experts at BioSecure workshop presentation of results – 13 September 2005, Paris

The presentation of the results for first residential BioSecure EU Network of Excellence workshop gathered researchers, industrials and representatives from the European Commission on 13 September in Paris.

The main objective of the workshop was to elaborate a common evaluation framework for biometrics modalities by evaluating open-source reference systems on common databases. The major achievements were data collection for biometrics tests, joint evaluation at both inter-modal and intra-modal levels, better understanding of current reference systems and steps towards improvement, and basis for further joint research.

EUROSMART meetings

Steering Committee members decided on 26 September to support actively and present Eurosmart position papers at next Cartes 2005 press conference.
-
Eurosmart Communication Working Group gathered on 19 September in Brussels to assess results of Eurosmart communication actions for 1st semester 2005 and to draw next steps by the end of the year. Next meeting will take place at Cartes 2005 on 16 November at 3.00 pm.
