Eurosmart Market &
Technology Working Group has finalised a
Position Paper on ID applications.
The European Union is now launching the
second generation of Schengen Information
System and is modifying the uniform format
of the visa to include biometrics features.
Eurosmart recommends the use of a Smart
Card visa for a more secure and privacy
respect solution.
eSmart conference in Sophia-Antipolis
is the occasion for Eurosmart members to
organise internal meetings:
- Steering Committee members will coordinate
future lobbying actions before the end of
the year,
-Communication working group will prepare
Eurosmart sponsorship and participation
to Cartes 2003 in November
- Market & Technology members will coordinate
the issuance of smart card figures.
ISCI
International Security Certification Initiative
Eurosmart together with
Certifications bodies, and evaluation laboratories
worked on a common proposal, ISCI ( International
Security Certification Initiative).
ISCI is a new standardisation initiative.
Its aim is to define and promote a universal
framework for security evaluation and certification
methods, tools and procedure based on internationally
accepted standards.

CD-Rom with latest Open Smart Card Infrastructure
for Europe documents is still available, and it's
free.
- Smart Card Alliance : Secure
Personal ID Task Force is working on a new
white paper that discusses how smart cards
can help health care providers and insurance
companies meet HIPAA privacy and security
requirements. This white paper is scheduled
for completion in September
- ACT Canada : Newsletter announces
a highly educational and informative program
for the October 16th, 17th conference, "Breaking
Through Card Barriers". Through keynote
speeches and roundtable case studies, ACT
will demonstrate that other issuers have
already overcome these same obstacles and
have gone on to successfully implement smart
cards.
