Eurosmart contributions to public consultations

The Eurosystem launched a public consultation on a proposal for a draft oversight framework for card payment schemes, to which Eurosmart contributed as its activities are closely associated to the implementation of the SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area).

Eurosmart feels the requirements on security remain insufficient and recommends adopting an approach towards a high level of security, avoiding accumulating several evaluations and insisting on the reference to a neutral scheme.

A public consultation was launched on the future of the ENISA (European Network and Information Security Agency) to clarify how the Agency should work with National regulatory bodies, centres of expertise and the private sector to define requirements and guide their implementations to meet security and integrity challenges related to current and future electronic networks.

Eurosmart wanted to contribute to this evaluation as its activities are linked to the Agency: ensure a high and effective level of network and information security. Besides, Eurosmart members of the Security and e-Identity groups are in contact with ENISA since September 2006 to discuss privacy protection and electronic transaction security requirements for incorporation in European legal frameworks. Eurosmart calls for a fully empowered Agency that would not only have the task of collecting information but that would play a strong advising role on decision making at the EU level.

A new initiative on security segmentation

Security is the core of the smart security industry and the role of Eurosmart is to make sure that security is well valued. To go in this direction, Eurosmart has launched this summer a new Task Force, gathering both market and security experts, that will propose a market segmentation of smart secure devices. Our role as an industry is to educate people on security risks and to explain how to choose the right level of security. The final objective is to produce guidelines and deliver a clear message promoting security in the whole chain.

Eurosmart Steering committee, 4th July in Brussels

Just before the summer break, Eurosmart hold a steering committee meeting to prepare important coming events for our association, i.e. Smart event and Cartes, and also define the priorities of the working groups and the possible new partnerships opportunities in 2008.
