Glossary of terms

An object which contains a secure microcontroller and its embedded software for authentication, integrity, confidentiality and non repudiation purposes it is also characterized by a rigorous product life cycle management including personalization by the issuer. The main purpose is to offer security services to the Human to Machine and Machine to Machine application domains. It comes in multiple form factors, either personal and portable objects such as Smart cards and Smart USB Tokens or embedded devices in appliances such as set-top boxes for pay-TV , PC’s mobile phones etc.
