Final Report of the Smart Borders Pilot Project

07 December 2015

On December 7, the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) heard a presentation by the Director of eu-LISA on the final report of the Smart Borders pilot project.

The project tested the deployment of process accelerators and biometric identifiers at all types of borders. The results, according to eu-LISA, were generally positive, though there were differences in performance. Members expressed concerns about feasibility, data protections, and the extent to which such smart borders methods would be incorporated into existing digital borders infrastructure.
