The European Commission published its annual Work Programme for European standardisation for 2016.
The Commission sets annually its vision for standardisation in identifying strategic priorities. In 2016, ICT standardisation has been identified as the key priority. It reflects the policy objective to develop the Digital Single Market (DSM) which aims to reduce market fragmentation by increasing interoperability of products.
In the 2016 work programme, the Commission plans to identify the most critical sectors for the DSM and select standardisation actions in those sectors. Public consultations and existing instruments such as the Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation 2016 will support and will be part of this methodology.
