Communication to reinforce the Schengen Information System

The European Commission released on 21st of December a Communication delivering on "the European Agenda on Security to fight against terrorism and pave the way towards an effective and genuine Security Union" to reinforce the Schengen Information System (SIS).

This new intiative aims at further enhance the ability of the system to fight terrorism and cross-border crime, improve border and migration management and ensure an effective information exchange between Member States to increase the security of European citizens.

SIS is the most widely used information sharing system for border management and security in Europe, it was consulted 2.9 billion times in 2015.
