Radio Equipment Directive: public consultation

The European Commission recently launched a public consultation on the upload of software on radio equipment.

"This public consultation aims to gather inputs for an initiative relating to the upload of certain software into specific categories of devices governed by the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU. It concerns market access of radio equipment that can be reconfigured by certain software (including firmware). “Radio equipment” includes (but is not limited to) mobile phones, laptops, radio-connected peripherals (e.g. printers), smart domestic appliances, routers, baby and house alarms, drones, radio-controlled toys, wearable devices and other industrial or professional wireless equipment. The software (e.g. that with an impact on safety or the use of the radio spectrum) can be produced by either the manufacturer of the equipment or a third party." (EC description)

The deadline has been set for 14 September 2020.
