Gaia-X: customers could choose to have their data processed and stored in the EU
According to Gaia-X documents, customers would be allowed to demand their data be processed and stored exclusively in the EU. In addition, customers could choose which European country’s laws would govern their data storage contracts.
The draft policy rules also show the willingness to provide customers with transparency. Cloud providers would have to disclose the foreign laws that apply to them, as well as the location of their servers.
Moreover, cloud providers would not be allowed to access their customer data and should ensure limitation of access to or disclosure of data in the context of investigation requests.
Gaia-X draft policy rules are currently the object of consultation until 10 June. The final rules will be decided by the Board of Gaia-X in September 2021.
