ENISA issued an EU ICT Industrial Policy paper open for feedback

Today, ENISA, The European Cybersecurity Agency launched a consultation paper entitled "EU ICT Industrial Policy: Breaking the Cycle of Failure”. This paper analysis the strengths and the weaknesses of the European Cybersecurity value chain to compete at the global stage.  

The document states that in an increasingly globalised world, Europe has often presented itself as a champion of values, however, the EU’s normative power alone cannot guarantee the digital sovereignty of its citizens or its businesses. This paper compares the market share of several verticals including mobile operating systems, telecom equipment and digital companies.

ENISA presents the challenges that EU digital sovereignty has to face with and highlights the importance of data sovereignty at the EU and national levels.

To conclude the paper pencils some proposals to place the EU ICT industry as a strategic actor to support EU growth by enhancing possible sources of competitive advantages.  As list of question is address to stakeholders, ENISA open the document to public consultation till 31^st of August.

The European parliament Think Tank issued a briefing document on cyber-threats

The European Parliament Think Tank (known as the European Parliamentary Research Service) published a brief paper addressed to the Members of the European Parliament pointing out the different EU legislative challenges in terms of cyber-threats.

Beyond its informative content, this type of document which is designed for the European Parliament purposes, allows stakeholders to better understand the political prism of the policy makers when it comes to cybersecurity and cyber defense. 

The document states that by 2030, 125 billion devices will be connected to the internet, and 90 % of individuals older than 6 will be online. The created European cyber actors and initiative (I.e ENISA, EU Competence centers) are listed and briefly explained.

The document concludes that ensuring effective cyber-deterrence of malicious actors remains a challenge for the EU, and pan-European efforts for resilience, deterrence and defence should be strengthened and streamlined further.  

10 point-Manifesto “Towards European Digital Strategic Autonomy”

At the initiative of Eurosmart brief document gathering 10 points to enhance the European Digital Sovereignty has been signed by several supports*.

This document aims to launch a campaign to raise the awareness of the Members of the European Parliament about digital security and cybersecurity topics of interest to EU industry, SMEs, RTOs etc.

The document will be printed out in a booklet format in the next few weeks. The European Parliament is finalsing today and tomorrow the composition of its Committee and the appointment of coordinators, Eurosmart is closely monitoring this trend, a complete mapping will follow to support our Manifesto initiative.
