Semiconductor and cloud alliances officially launched
Today [19 July], the European Commission unveiled two keys industrial alliances:
-Alliance on Processors and Semiconductor technologies
-Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud
Due to the strategic relevance of the activities in the respective sectors, membership of the Alliances is subject to compliance with a number of conditions. Relevant stakeholders must meet eligibility criteria, related notably to security (including cybersecurity), security of supply, IP protection, data protection and data access and practical utility to the Alliance. They must sign the Declarations and fill in an application form, which will be assessed by the European Commission.
Who can join the semiconductor alliance and how?
Any organisation with relevant existing or planned activities in the area of processor and semiconductor technologies, including end-user companies, associations, and research and technology organisations, can join the Alliance. They can do so by signing the Declaration and filling in the application form provided they meet the eligibility criteria set out in the Terms of Reference (also see below).
Who can join the cloud alliance and how?
Any organisation with activities of significant relevance to the provision of highly secure cloud and data processing can join the Alliance at any time by signing up to the Alliance Declaration (.pdf), providing that the it meets the eligibility criteria as determined in the Terms of Reference (also see below).
The Alliance will be exclusively open to participation by businesses that have a legal representative established in the European Union. Entities which are subject to control by a third country, acting either directly or by way of measures addressed to a third country entity, will have to submit additional proof of the legal, organisational and technical measures they have taken to ensure full compliance with the EU’s data protection framework.
Concretely, eligible organisations can express their interest in joining the Alliance by responding to the continuously open call.
