Standardisation: upcoming EU initiatives

On 22 July, the Committee on Standards met for the 22nd time. The European Commission recently released the summary record of the meeting.

The Committee discussed the upcoming Standardisation Strategy, which the Commission should publish by the end of the year. The Standardisation strategy will address the following five main areas:

- The European standardisation system

- Better anticipation of standardisation needs

- International leadership in standards-setting

- Education/skills/expertise

- Services

The Committee also discussed the functioning of the HAS Consultants system. Participants stressed the importance of the HAS consultants as an interface between the Commission and standardisers.

In addition, the Committee listed the upcoming standardisation requests. It is worth mentioning here upcoming requests on batteries, toys, drones, rail system interoperability, accessibility of products and services, several requests in mechanical, electrical, and electronic sectors of engineering industries, communication exchange, electricity and hydrogen supply for road, maritime transport.
