European prototype for a compact quantum computer

Researchers from the University of Innsbruck (Austria) have built a prototype for a compact quantum computer. This EU-funded project aims to fit quantum-computing experiments into the smallest space possible.  The prototype has the ability to entangle 24 qubits. By next year, this ability will be increased up to 50 qubits.

The compact quantum computer is available online to interested users through the AQT Cloud Access.

This quantum computer has another notable feature: low power consumption, 1.5 kilowatts or the same amount of energy needed to power a kettle. Researchers are considering using solar panels to power the device.
