EU Member States commit to increasing their cyber-capabilities

Yesterday [9 March], EU Ministers for Digital Affairs gathered in Nevers to discuss cyber-resilience. The conversation took place in the context of the Ukraine war, which makes cybersecurity an even more pressing issue.

EU governments are committed to supporting Ukraine, in particular through the provision of IT equipment. The Ministers called on private-sector companies to provide such equipment whenever possible and coordinate closely with their governments.

They also approved the creation of a cybersecurity emergency response fund.

In addition, the Ministers called on the Board of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and ENISA to identify the risks and formulate recommendations to strengthen cyber-resilience.

Participants also underlined the need to swiftly adopt the revised NIS Directive. They further asked the European Commission to firm up the Cyber Resilience Act.
