Wallet pilots: key takeaways from the Commission’s webinar

On 14 March, the European Commission organised a webinar on recent Digital Europe calls for proposals. It notably covered the call for the eIDAS Wallet pilots.

The speaker from DG CNECT explained that the Wallet proposals are supposed to align with the legislation and the Architecture Reference Framework (outline). The ARF will be published in October 2022. Applicants should also ensure alignment with other ongoing cross-border initiatives and use pre-existing work.

The projects should run in a pre-production environment that already ensures oversight of the different roles (relying parties, issuers etc.).

The applicants need to be a consortium of at least three applicants from the EU/EEA from at least three countries, each endorsing a different role.

Member States will soon designate an organisation that will act as responsible body for the purpose of this call. The details will be published shortly.

The speaker explained that private companies can participate as attribute attestation providers or relying parties. If a company wants to participate as a Wallet issuer, it should be possible in line with eIDAS 2 (the company must be recognised by the Member State).

You will find below the link to the replay of the event. There are also some explanations on the call on the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI), Blockchain standardisation and AI for law enforcement.

Please also find below some slides.
