Commission publishes a new roadmap on the digitalisation of travel documents
The European Commission recently published information on a planned initiative to digitalise travel documents. The initiative aims to decide on a common format for digital travel documents and to make travelling easier. The Commission previously announced it in the 2021 Schengen Strategy.
There is still a long way to go before legislation is even proposed. First, the European Commission will collect feedback; then it will launch a public consultation in Q4 2022. It plans to issue a proposal for a regulation in Q3 2023.
