Czech’s priorities for digital and industry
On 13 July, two Czech representatives attended a session in the European Parliament. They presented Czech Republic’s priorities to the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).
Ivan Bartoš, Deputy Minister for Digitisation, explained that the digital agenda had been a long-time priority for the Czech Republic. His country will support building resilient telecommunications infrastructure and a sustainable digital ecosystem based on open strategy autonomy and cooperation with third countries. Cybersecurity and the security of supply chains are very important.
The Deputy Minister also underlined the importance of AI. The Czech Presidency aims to reach a general approach (i.e. an agreement between Member States) on the AI Act by the end of the year.
On the eIDAS file, the Czech Presidency aims to progress this file as much as possible in order to reach a general approach by the end of the year. Their priority is a general approach in the December Council, “despite it being a very technical issue”.
Joseph Síkela, Minister of Industry and Trade, added that the Czech Presidency wants to reduce dependence on Asia and the US for the semiconductor supply chain. They will strive to reach an agreement on the Chips Act within the Council in December. In addition, the Czech Presidency organises a conference on raw materials security on 12 September.
