Last month, Olivier Van Nieuwenhuyze succeeded John Boggie (NXP) as President of Eurosmart. His appointment comes at a strategic moment as the sector advances in areas such as post-quantum cryptography, digital identity wallets, and trusted cloud services.

Engagement with the European Commission

During the General Assembly, Eurosmart had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful exchange with the European Commission on key cybersecurity topics, particularly the revision of the EU Cybersecurity Act (EUCSA). Discussions focused on maintaining high assurance levels in certification schemes including the central rôle of penetration testings, the role of ENISA in scheme development, the inclusion of non-technical requirements (such as privacy and immunity standards), and proposals for scheme maintenance through the ISAC model and public-private partnerships.

Eurosmart presented early feedback highlighting the importance of preserving the ambition of the EUCSA, including:

  • Upholding penetration testing and strict oversight of conformity assessment bodies.
  • Advocating for timely development of new schemes like EUCS and 5G.
  • Proposing non-technical scheme requirements to support GDPR compliance and sovereignty.
  • Emphasizing the need for risk-based approaches to maintain certifications over long product lifecycles.
  • Fostering industry and stakeholders’key contributions when it comes to cybersecurity schemes’maintenance

These insights underline Eurosmart’s active role in shaping European cybersecurity policy and its commitment to a secure digital future for all stakeholders.
